To stream sport in Europe, find who holds the rights in your country and subscribe to that service — the home of football, F1 or tennis differs by market, so there’s no single answer. This practical guide covers the major sports — football, motorsport, tennis, basketball and winter sports — who broadcasts what across Europe, and how to find it locally. It complements our sports rights guide, which lists the rights holders league by league; this one is the viewer’s how-to by sport.
How Sport Streaming Works in Europe
Sport rights are sold market by market and often split between broadcasters, so the home of any competition differs by country and changes each cycle. The method is always the same: identify the rights holder in your country, then subscribe. Use our sports rights guide for the league-by-league list and your country guide for the local setup.
By Sport
Football
The biggest draw and the most fragmented. Domestic leagues, the Champions League and the big four (Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, Bundesliga) each have different homes per country — DAZN, Sky/NOW, national broadcasters or telecoms. See our dedicated football streaming guide and the DAZN vs Sky Sports comparison.
Motorsport (F1, MotoGP)
F1 offers F1 TV (Pro/Access) directly in many countries for full live and on-demand coverage, while local broadcasters (Sky in the UK/Italy/Germany, national channels elsewhere) also carry it. MotoGP has its own video pass plus local broadcasters. A dedicated pass is often the best value for a single-series fan.
Tennis
The Grand Slams split by country — public broadcasters carry some (Wimbledon on the BBC in the UK, Roland-Garros on France.tv in France), while pay-TV and dedicated tennis passes cover the wider tours. Check which Slam is where in your country guide.
Basketball (EuroLeague, NBA)
EuroLeague streams via its own pass and local broadcasters; the NBA offers NBA League Pass across Europe for live and on-demand games, alongside broadcaster deals in some markets. League Pass is the simplest pan-European route for NBA fans.
Winter Sports & Others
Winter sports, cycling and athletics often appear on public broadcasters and pan-European sport channels (e.g. Eurosport/Warner Bros. Discovery’s sport, now largely on Max in Europe). Major events like the Olympics are widely carried free on public TV.
Each sport has its own routes — dedicated passes, pay-TV, or free public broadcasters.
| Sport | Typical streaming route |
|---|---|
| Football | DAZN, Sky/NOW, national broadcasters or telecoms — different homes per country |
| Motorsport (F1, MotoGP) | F1 TV (Pro/Access) or the MotoGP video pass, plus local broadcasters |
| Tennis | Public broadcasters for some Slams; pay-TV and dedicated tennis passes for the wider tours |
| Basketball (EuroLeague, NBA) | EuroLeague pass or NBA League Pass, alongside broadcaster deals in some markets |
| Winter sports & others | Public broadcasters and pan-European sport channels (Eurosport, now largely on Max) |
Free Sport (Where It Exists)
Free live sport is limited but real: public broadcasters carry national-team football, major finals, the Olympics, and events like Wimbledon or Tour de France highlights in many countries. Hungary’s M4 Sport shows much of its league free-to-air. See what’s free in the free public broadcasters guide.
Tips
- Dedicated passes (F1 TV, NBA League Pass, tennis passes) are often best value for a single sport.
- Broad packages (Sky Sports/NOW, DAZN) suit multi-sport fans in their markets.
- Check rights each season — they move between broadcasters.
- A VPN can’t legitimately unlock foreign sport; services block VPNs and EU portability only carries your home subscription while travelling.
The Bottom Line
Streaming sport in Europe is all about rights by country: identify who holds your sport in your market, then choose a dedicated pass for one sport or a broad package for many. Free options exist mainly for national teams and major events on public TV.
